White Base Coat with Edging

I looked at a number of videos watching model builds and decided to add a bit of texture and depth to the paint job. I first painted the whole tank white.

Tiger Stripes With No Tiger

Looking at photos and historical documentation online, it looks like the Super Pershing wasn’t just olive drab when it was in the field in Germany. Though American tanks generally were painted with one color and few if any had camouflage, the Super Pershing seems to have had very light black stripes to add some camo to the tank. It was very light and could not see in historical black and white photos. However, after skimming through a number of books, there were multiple references to this camo technique.

‘Painting’ the Tracks

In the past when I painted tracks, I used a flat grey and then painted a light rust layer. After doing some more research I decided to try to run a light wash over the initial two layers. Starting with a Tamiya Metallic Grey XF-56 I added a very light layer of rust colored paint mainly to the middle of the tracks. I think gave the tracks about 3 layers of the wash. The was the first time I had tried using wash and realized I needed to add multiple layers to really give it that rust look. I still have the same brush 5-years layer as I only use this for tracks.
